Dear Xavierians,
GAA is sitting on a goldmine: 3 ½ ropani of land with a solid building in the heart of Thamel, having almost 3500 well-established Xavierians all over the world. If such an institute cannot make a difference in the country, then who can?
Like the country, GAA too has made a lot of changes in its Constitution. The Board now is designed to encompass the 17 to 70 year age group representation. GAA is now solely in the hands of the Alumni, no more Moderator. The office is managed by a professional CEO. But all these are only cosmetic changes. Unless and until the 3,500 Xavierians cannot be mobilized, our full strength will not be visible in the society.
GAA will continue its Youth Activities on Education, Sports, and Social Works, but it will mobilise the Senior Members on nation building activities that can make a difference in the Nepalese society. We will remain apolitical, but we will not just be a spectator and complain.
Besides batch-wise get togethers, professional clusters will be created to come out with a strong GAA Voice on the issue of the particular profession.
Nepal is working on establishing a republic form of democracy; but the attitude of the Political Parties are clearly If you are not with me, then you are against me! Very little tolerance on others views and rights. If anybody has demonstrated what 'Democracy' is, we have seen it in St Xavier's School. While in school, we had to follow the strict 'Prayers to 'Jesus', but there was no forcing us to be Christians. How many Xavierians became Christians? Xavierians can proudly say that our school already taught us what democracy is and we don't need to be re-oriented.!!
I pledge to all Xavierians, from all over the world, whatever age group you may be, that Nepal needs you more than ever before. Shall we just say 'Ke garne' and complain or should we not readily come forward to say that Democracy is not just about Rights but, it’s more about 'Duties'!
Be a member of GAA. Be active!
Thank youYogendra Sakya
President - GAA
