Double delight for Golden Gate

It was double delight for Golden Gate College as both its teams advanced to final of the ongoing Fr. Donnelly Open 3-on-3 Basketball Championship winning their respective semifinals on Friday.

Golden Gate A secured an easy 21-7, 21-5, 21-15 win over ABCW while Golden Gate B had to struggle hard to earn a 21-14, 17-21, 10-21, 21-7, 21-15 over Kathmandudes.

Beating ABCW was a cake walk for Golden Gate A, which kept its cool showing the same virtues that won it the previous matches. Rabindra Maharjan and Bipendra Maharjan gave a tough time to their opponents converting almost all their attempts.

The only time ABCW showed some signs of recovery was in the final round, where with a little help from Wilson Pandey, they managed to put pressure on the wining team. Pandey shook the Golden Gate defense with his classy fakes providing easy scoring chances to his team mates. The duo of Bipendra and Rabindra netted 26 and 22 points respectively.

The second semifinal saw the end of a much fancied side Kathmandudes. Both teams were separated by a narrow 11-9 points in favor of Golden Gate in the first round. Kathmandudes employed a strong defense to limit Golden Gate to just 10 and 7 points in the second and third rounds. Robin Kahatri of Kathmandudes deservedly turned a lot of heads, showing real flexibility with the ball to help his gain the upper hand.

Golden Gate took the fourth and final round 21-7 and 21-15 respectively.
