
An Alumni day was organized on October 30, 2010 at St Xavier's school with over 495 alumni and their families attending a day full full of entertainment and reunion. Two concerts by Guitarist Anil Shahi and the Prism band was part of the event. Delicious snacks and Lunch was served while many events and activities were conudcted during the 6 hour event.
Workshop on IT and Study Aborad for SLC Freshers
GAA organised two workshops for the SLC Freshers to guide them to be aware of the IT sector as well as the procedures of studying abroad conducted by Mr Allen Tuladhar of Unlimited Software Pvt Ltd on IT and Mr Anup Shrestha on Study Abroad.
Annual Welcome Party 2010
Held on the 10th of April, 2010, GAA welcomed graduates from all three Jesuit schools in the valley – St Xavier's Jawalakhel, St Xavier's Godavari and St. Mary's. With over 300 Xavierians and Marians attending the event, the sole purpose of the event – to introduce the teenagers to Godavari Alumni Association. After the bit of fun and nervousness, the programme switched to the highlight of the day – this year's Mr. and Ms. GAA.
Ratna Shield Quiz Contest
'Ratna Shield' is a quiz contest for the higher secondary and the bachelors level students that GAA organises every year. This year the 35th inter college quiz contest-Ratna Shield was co-ordinated by Mr. Sushil Silwal. The contest took off a week before the Finals on 24th January 2010 with Chelsea 'A' in the first position, Trinity as the runner-up, followed by Chelsea 'B'. Fifteen teams finally knowing each other from corresponding schools, the party hit a halt at six in the evening. The event concluded on a positive note, peacefully. The event first had participated in the contest.
Fun Dance
With a huge demand by the fresh members a dance party was organised with a dance floor arranged in youth room with music system.
Concert for STX by STX
Sensing there are many Xavierian bands and many more that were musically inclined, we organized a concert with various bands that were all made up of St Xavier's school graduates. It was a musical event attended by a huge mass of people.
St Xavier's College Welcome Party
With the thought of including college students in the various activities conducted by the GAA, 1st time GAA conducted the welcome party for the students of t. Xavier's College, Maitighar. The tickets of Rs. 100 were sold out to the students and it covered the lunch and the disco dance. It was attended by about 150 students.
Movie Screeings
Sensing the young members had very little to do when there weren't program going on at GAA, weekly movie shows were another remarkable programs being conducted at GAA. The Independent Film Society in coordination with GAA volunteers organised shows every weekend. A lot of people used to come and enjoy the movie being projected at the widescreen at the lounge.
World Cup 2010 Screeing
With the world cup fever rising, GAA had organized live telecast of the games of the world cup at the lounge. The first day and a couple of days saw a good number of members come watch the games but since this year every nook and corner town had live telecasts, people preferred to watch it at a nearer location for their homes as the games were mostly late nights. Starting from the inauguration to the finals, the matches were projected at the screen with a mass of youngsters occupying the seats. It proved to be a great spot for the youngsters to watch the football matches on the wide screen along with their friends.
Jana Baha Campaign
Janabaha, a famous temple in Asan has seen a couple of Xavierians (Alok '84, Jairaj '85, Sampurna '85, etc.) working hard for its preservation and GAA members also went a couple of days to try and clean up a certain portion of the area as a step to raise consciousness amongst those coming to the temple to keep it clean and to preserve the heritage sights so that the future generation can also witness it.
Corporate Basketball
As per the tradition of GAA, a corporate basketball tournament was organised for women with 7 teams participating. The team from Nepal Investment Bank secured the first place.
Project Palanchowk
Project Palanchowk was another successful events organised by GAA the following year. A group of five students had initiated the project where goods and cash worth over 1.1 lakh was contributed to a school named Palanchowk Bhagwati Uchha Madhyamik Vidhyalaya located besides the famous Palanchowk Bhagwati Temple. Lions Club of Kathmandu Capital was also associated with the project by constructing a lab for the school worth Rs 25,000. The goods contributed included furniture, lab equipments, library books, scholarship of over 14,000, a computer set.
Gathering of Different Batches at GAA
Apart from formal meetings and programmes, GAA has also proved to be an important site for gatherings. GAA has always been a great place for the alumni to meet and this year, after the lounge was set up in a more cozy way, has had a couple of batches meet and have their gatherings.
Annual General Meeting
GAA Annual General Meeting was organised at the GAA premises on January 28, 2010 with life and regular members participating. The President welcomed all and briefed about GAA's transition. The Executive Board has formed followed by the financial report by the treasurer Mr Bhu Arun Malla. The new CEO Mr Manoj Manandhar informed all about the events that were planned for this year. Dinner was served after a brief interaction between the members and the Executive Board.
Phulchowki Hike
As a tradition, GAA organised a hike and clean up campaign after the SLC Welcome party this year with over 95 girls and boys spending the day hiking up the Phulchowki hill like we used to in our school days.
Tennis Lessons
GAA has a tennis court that has been used as a parking lot in the afternoons. Mr. Bhu Arun Malla conducts tennis lessons for the people at GAA, where they learn the tennis basics and to one day become a professional.
Yoga Classes
GAA has been providing its hall for the Yoga classes since a long time that conducts its yoga classes early in the mornings for all those interested. It's a free class and has a good number of people that come every day.
Women Skill Development
There are many families in the valley that have a hard time making their needs meet. GAA therefore thought that with the space it had and with a little bit of an effort could start a sewing skill development class for the poor women so that they could learn and earn after taking the training.
