Fr. Donnelly 3 on 3 Men’s and Women’s Open Basketball Tournament

The GAA is organizing the 1st Fr. Donnelly 3 on 3 Men’s and Women’s Open Basketball Tournament from 16-19 July 2008. The last date of registration is on  13 July, 2008. The purpose of doing this tournament in the name of the ailing Fr James J Donnelly is to recognize his contribution to sports and towards his zeal to achieving excellence.

The concept of 3 on 3 tournament comes from what is known as “street basketball” played around the world. The pace of the game is faster than regular games and can be played in a half court with three players per team which is one of the reasons behind its popularity.

The GAA already has a regular basketball tournament under the name of late Fr. Eugene Watrin. The tournament which is among the most awaited in the sport in Nepal, was held for the 4th consecutive year recently. This 3 on 3 tournament will give those who did not have the opportunity to participate as a team in the Watrin Cup an opportunity to sharpen their skills and show their talents for the betterment of the game. In the men's category winning team will be awarded Rs 20,000 in cash prizes while the runner up teams will receive Rs 10,000; and Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively in the women's category along with medals, certificates and gift hampers.

The GAA requests your support in honoring our former teacher through this tournament. Extra proceeds of the tournament will go as reserves for next year’s tournament.
