Bipendra spurs GoldenGate to victory

GoldenGate rode on Bipendra Maharjan's 17 points to see off spirited Prime College 'B' 21-15, 21-13 on the second day of the First Father Donnelly 3 on 3 Basketball Championship at the GAA Hall on Thursday.

Kathmandudes enjoyed a 21-16, 21-11 win over Generation with Grady Walker and Rabin Khatri's 19 and 11 points respectively.

Free Tibet, one of the four teams of host GAA, failed to live up to the expectation of its enthusiastic supporters, going down 21-14, 21-19 at the hands of EECC.

Prime 'A' gave its 'B' team something to cheer about after its bitter defeat, securing a 21-8, 21-11 win over Intensive College.

Prime was six points clear of its opponent in the initial stages of the first round with Ravi Giri and Rohit Lama giving their best. The experienced GoldenGate was in disarray falling behind against a much younger side.

Its experience and flawless play finally paid off when Bipendra Maharjan started feeding lanky Paresh Shrestha stationed just below the basket. Paresh played his part well to bridge the gap, and then there was certainly no looking back for the team, which went on to win the game with Paresh and Bipendra's 16 and 17 points respectively.

Ravi Giri did exceptionally well from the other side registering nine points including one three-pointer in the first round.

Free Tibet, which languished 21-14 in the first round, gave a tough fight before bowing down 21-19 in the next round. Free Tibet squandered a 19-17 lead at the most crucial time of the game, after it had come from behind 17-11 scoring two consecutive three-pointers and a two pointer.

In the other games of the day, White House downed Gladiator 21-11, 21-15. ABCW thrashed Abhinav JB 21-14, 21-2. KAB 4 got the better of Rookies 21-14, 21-15. GoldenGate 'B' followed the footsteps of its 'A' team humiliating South Siders 21-11, 21-04.

In the women's section, Rato Bangala 'A' tamed Rato Bangala 'Juniors' 21-3, 21-13. Valley Public beat ACE Flyers with a progressive 21-19, 21-2 score line and Snow Leopard killed Prime 10-21, 21-4, 21-2. (Source: ekantipur.com)
