Ratna Shield 2008

Ratna Shield 2008 Winners

Who says quizzes are boring? This certainly wasn't, and not just because Karna Sakya said so. What made the event truly exhilarating was the enthusiastic participation of so many contestants from so many colleges in the valley.

The Ratna Shield Quiz contest, as the annual event started in 1967 in honour of Queen Mother Ratna Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah was initially known, is probably the most keenly awaited inter-college quiz contest.

Students from both public and private institutions studying in higher secondary/ intermediate/ A levels participated in the event that kicked off Dec. 21.

The 34th edition of GAA Annual Quiz Contest Ratna Shied in 2008, which had 23 teams from 12 colleges participating, came to a close on Monday afternoon. Among those present in the audience were writer and conservationist Karna Shakya, the chief guest.

GAA Reconstruction Meeting-Sept 10

Dear Members,

As you must all be aware by now that the moderator of GAA Fr Greg Sharkey has been recalled by the Nepal Jesuit Society to give his full time to the Human Resource Development Centre in Sanepa. The Regional Superior Fr. Lawrence Maniyar has also informed us that for the moment the NJS does not have the resources to send anyone to GAA at the moment.

In light of this and the general view amongst members that operations of the GAA must be professionalized for its further development, the current GAA Board and the Executive Committee formed a Restructuring Advisory Committee which has proposed that the Constitution of the GAA must be amended to facilitate ways in which to make the day to day operations of the Association more professional.

GoldenGate 'A' thwarts juniors in final

GoldenGate 'A' and Snow Leopard won the men's and women's title of the First Father Donnelly 3 on 3 Open Basketball Tournament at the GAA Hall on Saturday. GoldenGate 'A' lifted the men's title defeating GoldenGate 'B' 21-15, 21-13, 21-17 and Snow Leopard clinched the women's title beating strong favorite Rato Bangala 21-17, 21-2. Paresh Shrestha opened the scoring for GoldenGate 'A' trailing by a huge 9-0 margin. The opener put the team back on track, as it quickly went well ahead of its opponent with a three-pointer and a couple of two-pointers from Rabindra Maharjan.

GoldenGate 'B', reputed for its resolute defending had trouble containing Rabindra Maharjan and went on conceding easily against him thus giving away a game that could easily had gone its way.

Double delight for Golden Gate

It was double delight for Golden Gate College as both its teams advanced to final of the ongoing Fr. Donnelly Open 3-on-3 Basketball Championship winning their respective semifinals on Friday.

Golden Gate A secured an easy 21-7, 21-5, 21-15 win over ABCW while Golden Gate B had to struggle hard to earn a 21-14, 17-21, 10-21, 21-7, 21-15 over Kathmandudes.

Beating ABCW was a cake walk for Golden Gate A, which kept its cool showing the same virtues that won it the previous matches. Rabindra Maharjan and Bipendra Maharjan gave a tough time to their opponents converting almost all their attempts.
