GoldenGate 'A' thwarts juniors in final

GoldenGate 'A' and Snow Leopard won the men's and women's title of the First Father Donnelly 3 on 3 Open Basketball Tournament at the GAA Hall on Saturday.

GoldenGate 'A' lifted the men's title defeating GoldenGate 'B' 21-15, 21-13, 21-17 and Snow Leopard clinched the women's title beating strong favorite Rato Bangala 21-17, 21-2.

Paresh Shrestha opened the scoring for GoldenGate 'A' trailing by a huge 9-0 margin. The opener put the team back on track, as it quickly went well ahead of its opponent with a three-pointer and a couple of two-pointers from Rabindra Maharjan.

Double delight for Golden Gate

It was double delight for Golden Gate College as both its teams advanced to final of the ongoing Fr. Donnelly Open 3-on-3 Basketball Championship winning their respective semifinals on Friday.

Golden Gate A secured an easy 21-7, 21-5, 21-15 win over ABCW while Golden Gate B had to struggle hard to earn a 21-14, 17-21, 10-21, 21-7, 21-15 over Kathmandudes.

Bipendra spurs GoldenGate to victory

GoldenGate rode on Bipendra Maharjan's 17 points to see off spirited Prime College 'B' 21-15, 21-13 on the second day of the First Father Donnelly 3 on 3 Basketball Championship at the GAA Hall on Thursday.

Kathmandudes enjoyed a 21-16, 21-11 win over Generation with Grady Walker and Rabin Khatri's 19 and 11 points respectively.

Free Tibet, one of the four teams of host GAA, failed to live up to the expectation of its enthusiastic supporters, going down 21-14, 21-19 at the hands of EECC.

3 on 3 starts on July 16

The 1st Fr Donnelly Open Level Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament is to start on 16 July, 2008. 24 men's team and 10 women's teams have registered. All matches will be held at the GAA hall.

The finals will be on Saturday 19 July, 2008. Fr Donnelly will give away the medals and cash prize.

Fr. Donnelly 3 on 3 Men’s and Women’s Open Basketball Tournament

The GAA is organizing the 1st Fr. Donnelly 3 on 3 Men’s and Women’s Open Basketball Tournament from 16-19 July 2008. The last date of registration is on  13 July, 2008. The purpose of doing this tournament in the name of the ailing Fr James J Donnelly is to recognize his contribution to sports and towards his zeal to achieving excellence.

Paragon wins Aishwarya Shield

Winners with the Aishwarya Shield

Paragon Public School bagged the Aishwarya Shield for the second consecutive year in 33rd Inter High School & 17th Inter Primary School English Spelling Contest both in secondary and primary category, final held today at G.A.A. Hall Thamel.

35 schools of the valley had participated in the contest. Alliance Academy and Skylark English School secured second and third position respectively in the High School Category.

In Primary School Category, Skylark English School and GEMS School secured second and third position respectively.

Chief Guest Fr. James J. Donnely handed away Shields and medals to the winning team.

Godavari Alumni Association has been organizing this event for the past 33 years. Primary level contest is running its 17 years.

Community Shelter built by GAA in Bardia District

After the successful medical camp for victims of the annual flood in Gangapur of Banke district, the GAA was granted a fund of NRs 4,44,444/- by the Le Meridian Gokarna Golf Club to do relief work for flood victims.

This fund was used by the GAA to build a community shelter for the poorest of the poor of Ranipur village,Neulapur VDC in Bardia. The land and the timber required for the building was donated by the local community of Ranipur which lies just outside the Bardia National Park.

Champadevi Cleanup Hike

A group of 40 volunteers lead by Mr. Paresh Shrestha and Mr. Yugdeep Thapa organised a day long hike to Champadevi hill on the southern rim of the valley. The purpose of the hike was not just to take our members closer to nature but also to clean up Champadevi Hill which is a popular picnic site and does have its litter and garbage scattered all along the trail and the top which is presents a beutiful scenary of Kathmandu valley. The team brought down 30 kgs of garbage.

Engaging Youth in Peace Building

To increase peaceful and constructive participation of youth of Kathmandu valley in the political process of the nation, it is important that they become aware of the issues of other places outside the valley. To this end, this activity will train 70 youth volunteers on human rights, as well as the current peace process of Nepal, and mobilize them throughout the country, including urban and rural areas in all five development regions. The volunteers will interact with the local youth, journalists, and government employees, among others.

Fr. Watrin Basketball Championship

The service towards youth through promotion of sports being one of the major objectives of GAA, the alumni has been organising its annual basketball tournament in the memory of Fr. Eugene L. Watrin S.J. encouraging the youth members in taking responsibilities and promoting the sports itself. The tournament is reputed and one of the major events in the basketball scenario. This year's tournament was organised by Mr.Patrick Chettri and team (batch of '04 ) under the guidance of Mahendra Man Sakya. It was a huge success as Fr. James J.
